YWCA hosts Thursday open house at Alan’s House

    YWCA Quad Cities is inviting the community to a special open house from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, to get its first look at Alan’s House before it opens its doors.

    That new Illinois Department of Children & Family Services-licensed youth group home is at the site of the former YWCA’s location at 229 16th St., Rock Island. 

    The new group home is named for the late Alan Egly. That community leader and the Doris & Victor Day Foundation executive director a youth home for years.

    Guests on Thursday will have the opportunity to tour the space and learn about the services Alan’s House will provide. They also will hear about the vision behind the program. Opening remarks will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

    Alan’s House will serve youth ages 10–17 who have been removed from their families due to abuse, neglect, or other difficult circumstances. The home will be licensed to serve up to 10 youth placed by DCFS and four youth placed by DHS. It will be the only youth group home in the area.
