QC chamber seeks to fill new executive director post

    The Quad Cities Chamber is searching for candidates to fill its newly created executive director position that will report to President & CEO Peter Tokar III, who also leads Grow Quad Cities

    Mr. Tokar and the chamber leadership launched that separate division to laser focus on community economic development.

    Jennifer Walker, the chamber’s vice president of marketing and communications, said for this new position the chamber arm is searching for a great candidate who will be part of that leadership team.

    He or she will guide the QC chamber’s three traditional focus areas.  Ms. Walker said they include: business-to-business connections, business advocacy, and small and minority business development.

    In addition to advancing the chamber’s mission, the new executive director will have responsibility over the chamber’s financial sustainability, member value, and regional business growth and competitiveness, the job posting said.

    The new position also will offer board and organizational strategy support to implement strategy to ensure profitability and member recuritment. He or she also will lead the chamber’s sales team. 

    The director will oversee and advance small and minority business initiatives, represent the chamber in the community, provide leadership on business advocacy priorities in coordination with the board and members, and oversee the government affairs team, membership event staff, small and minority business staff.

    Job requirements

    Requirements for the post include a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, communications, economic development, or other business fields; and five to seven years of senior leadership experience in a chamber, nonprofit, economic development or related organization. It also calls for superior verbal and written communication skills, public speaking competency and excellent time management.

    The organization also is seeking a senior director of government affairs. The winning applicant will fill a post that until recently was held by Ryan Sempf. He was responsible for directing all areas of advocacy, public policy, and political affairs. He left the chamber to become United Way Quad Cities’ chief impact officer.
